Scale modeling
I am currently building 2 scale models:
- A Lockheed P-38J Lightning (kit 61123 by Tamiya) in 1/48. I am building it as “SCAT II”, the personal mount of Lt. Robin Olds in 1944, in natural metal finish and invasion stripes. It is almost finished and looks very impressive.
- A Curtiss P-40B (kit A01003B by Airfix), half assembled, on a flatbed trailer truck, fresh out of the factory. The Truck is a Ford V-8 Stake Truck (kit 72584 by ACE). The trailer is to be scratch built. This kit is in 1/72 scale thet I am not overly fond of. As a result it has been left a bit behind. I do intend to finish it though, as it is part of a group-bild.
At the same time, I am preparing for the next 2 models in the pipeline. They will be part of a group-build themed “under new management”:
- A Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4 (kit 82166X by Eduard in 1/48) in US markings (decal set ED48012 by Exito).
- A Nakajima A6M2-N Rufe (kit 11171 by Eduard in 1/48) in ATAIU–SEA (UK) markings.
Home-Improvement
As I do not have a dedicated space for scale modelling, I am currently forced to use my computer desk or kitchen table whenever I want to build something. I am planning of getting an IKEA bookshelf with doors and convert it to a small workbench with a folding table. The plan is for everything to hide when the doors are closed. This project is currently in the planning phase as I try to figure out dimensions and ergonomics.
Reading
I am reading the book Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It is about the adventures of a robot that tries to navigate through a dystopian future where civilisation has broken down. It is very good actually!
After that, I will continue with the latest 2 books of the Frontier Saga by Ryk Brown.
